We expect a wonderful year here in the department of world languages as we are moving on up in the world. Everyone has a projector plus large screen in their classroom, and many features on the lab equipment have been updated. Please note that this year, Spanish I students will be testing in December with a performance based End of Course Test (EOCT) and it's highly possible that by Spring semester, Spanish II will also be testing. Don't panic - I'll keep you posted!
With the new move from standardized testing to performance based testing, meaning that the listening and speaking portion of the course will be weighted at 40% of the grading system. Please expect more listening and speaking exercises and this year, most of those big tests will be graded based on a rubric. I will present the rubric beforehand on most projects.
Don't forget that this year's class requirements are:
- One 2" three ring binder
- 6 dividers that will be used for the following sections:
- Hablar / speaking
- Escuchar / listening
- Escribir / writing
- Leer / reading
- Gramática/ grammar
- Apuntes / Notes (and other)
- 1 composition notebook (wide ruled) 100 pages
- Blue or Black ink pen
Please download the syllabus if you can , on the right hand side of the page for more information.
Also note that they are not the complete syllabus.
Parents, please remember to sign the syllabus and return it by Friday, August 14th. Use the one I'll send home as it will contain release/permission information about internet and language lab usage.
